Baltic Master II - from Vision to Action
Baltic Master II is an international project
which aims to improve maritime safety by integrating local and
regional perspectives. The focus is on the Baltic Sea Region and
issues concerning pollution prevention, coastal zone
management and on-land response capacity to an oil spill at
sea. The Baltic Master II project is recognized as a flagship
project in the Baltic Sea Strategy of the European Union.
Work package 1
As Lead Partner, Region Blekinge runs the overall project
management issues. The work within WP1 includes a Political
Committee and Steering Group as well as strategic cooperation with
other projects and organizations.
Work package 2
The aim of internal communication is to disseminate information
about the project results
and activities to all partners and to encourage participation and
involvement. The aim of external information activities is to reach
the target groups of the project. An additional aim is to ensure
political commitment.
Work package 3
WP3 focuses on oil preparedness, response and coastal management
linked to contingency planning. The work will partly be conducted
within case studies including theoretical exercises. WP3 aims to
develop contingency plans in coastal communities as well as
put them into practice by arranging joint exercises. In order to
develop a holistic view to managing the coastal zone, WP3 will also
explore the links between coastal management and contingency
planning.
Work package 4
This WP includes several tasks that all aim to prevent pollution
caused by maritime traffic. WP4 will primarily focus on the
existing legal framework regulating transport in the Baltic Sea.
Reviewing present regulations and analyzing how these can be better
enforced to make transport safer will be one of the tasks in this
work package. WP4 will also propose concrete measures that can be
implemented to improve safety at sea.
