East West TC II
The East West Transport Corridor II (EWTCII) project
is the largest transport project within the EU Baltic
Sea Region Programme as well as the largest project led by Region
Blekinge.
The project is a continuation of the first East West TC
project that developed the transport corridor between
Esbjerg-Vilnius via Öresund and Blekinge. Since this project was a
great success, the East West TCII has now been granted a budget of
around SEK 60 million.
The purpose of East West TC II is to strengthen
sustainable economic growth as well as manage the increasing
volumes of goods in the transport corridor in an east-west
direction in a more environmental-friendly way. The project
will last until 2012. Around 70 organizations and authorities from
Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Lithuania, Russia and Belarus are
involved in the project which is led by Region Blekinge.
The project will among other things produce:
- A manual on how to develop a green corridor in accordance with
the EU policy, making the corridor a more environmental-friendly
transport alternative than it is today
- An innovative IT-based brooker system for transport and
traffic-information that will increase the effectiveness and the
negative impacts on the environment from the transport sector
- A manual on how to buy, sell and plan environmental-friendly
goods transport that can be used by different transport buyers
- New business concepts for railway transport
- Improved transport service in ports and terminals
- Higher transport skills among different stakeholders in the
corridor
- Improved infrastructure in the corridor
